S2-E14: We Are Going To Get Through This

S2-E14: We Are Going To Get Through This

June 21, 2020

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers, father figures, and father surrogates who love us, lift us, give it to us straight and remind us what true strength looks like. As I interviewed men for this month set aside to amplify the voices of Black Men, I reserved Father's Day for none other than Dr. Undrai Fizer.  He speaks to my bone marrow, I'm telling you. And he brings a dignity to spirituality that is seldom seen. It's deeply human and profoundly Divine at the very same time.

Dr. Undrai goes underneath the skin to the real ills of humanity parading around as Black and White.

We discuss:

  • The longing for oneness
  • Institutionalized labeling
  • An unrenewed mind
  • How change really happens
  • From the acting love to the energy of love

…and much more

Dr. Undrai is the founder of The Fizer Center, a subsidiary of The Kairos Institute of Personal Discovery in Houston, Texas.

He holds doctoral degrees from Latin University of Theology, as well as United Graduate College and Seminary. He is also a commissioned Goodwill Ambassador with the U.N. Inter-faith Initiative.

He is a jazz keyboardist of Undrai Fizer Music, a prophetically conscious Instrumental Module. He is a best selling author and publisher, strategy coach and international speaker.

But his greatest role in life is that of husband, father, and friend. He is married to Dr. Bridget E. Fizer, a renown fashion designer, professor and coach, and father to 3 sons; Benjamin, Loren, and Zion.

S2-E13: We Can’t Stop

S2-E13: We Can’t Stop

June 17, 2020

After a history in this country of being heard but not listened to, Sean Rodgers says “Enough is enough! LISTEN TO US!”  Sean, a husband, father and advocate for healthy marriages reverberates the cry of Black Men who are fastly becoming an endangered species.

Sean Rodgers is a charismatic entrepreneur who is passionate about serving others.  Since 2008 he has owned, Response Marketing and Mailing, a print fulfillment and direct mail advertising company where he helps clients grow their business.  As a business owner, he is able to do what he wants, when he wants.  So at his place of business Sean facilitated a weekly men’s forum in order to give men the opportunity to connect and share hearts and life issues with one another, as men are accustomed to doing at the Barber Shop.  Sean has also volunteered his time with the Fatherhood Project by mentoring young men at the juvenile detention center.  He helped young fathers facing life sentences acknowledge and accept their role and responsibility in their child’s life.  He currently facilitates men’s groups held at his church, leading discussions surrounding father wounds and pride.

Sean shares his perspective about:

  • Riots
  • White People who adopt Black children
  • God-fearing Bible-believing Bigots
  • Consistency
  • Colin Kaepernick

…and much more.

Sean’s final takeaway is “We can’t stop!” Sean encourages everyone to take a stand and refuse to allow distractions to lull them back to sleep.

S2-E12: Can You Hear Me Now?

S2-E12: Can You Hear Me Now?

June 14, 2020

Continuing “The Month of the Man” is speaker, author, and certified life and relationship coach and “Reality Expert” Troy Spry.  Troy stopped by Enough Factor Podcast to have a no holds barred conversation about what it’s like to be a Black Man in Corporate America.  What he shared was surprising even for me!  We started the conversation with a thought-provoking question:  what is your soul crying for?

An avid blogger Troy invites the world to share in the many interesting thoughts and conversations he has about life, love and the lessons they’ve taught him. His popular blog, books, conversation parties, webinars and seminars, inspirational morning messages, lunchtime discussions, and personal one-on-one relationship and life coaching helped Troy grow from a blog, to a brand, to movement. He holds a position as an official staff writer for the award winning website BlackAndMarriedWithKids.com where he was recently the recipient of the “WRITER OF THE YEAR” and “WRITERS CHOICE AWARD.” Troy also has had the pleasure of writing for celebrity matchmaker Paul C. Brunson, has had his work featured in JET Magazine Online, and was chosen to be a guest blogger for the Steve Harvey Act like a Success Conference. He is a dating expert and contributor for DatingAdvice.com, DigitalRomance.Com, VixenDaily.com, and RealBlackLove.com. Troy has been listed as a premier coach by BlackMenRock.net, has had the honor of being a featured guest on HuffPost Live, and WBTV Bounce TV in Charlotte, NC and FOX 46’s Good Morning Charlotte!

Nevertheless, Troy divested himself of all of his accomplishments to take me inside the struggles he faces every day as a Black Man.

Troy talks about:

  • The pebbles that pile up for Black Men every time they have to nip and tuck their Blackness so White America won’t get offended or scared
  • Why he crosses the street when he approaches White Women so he won’t have to suffer the disappointment of seeing their nervousness or clasping their purse as he approaches them
  • The weight of the entire Black race that Black Men carry when they are the “exception” to the rule
  • The futility of getting mental health support only to go out and get broken over and over again
  • The exhaustion of having to explain this and teach White people over and over again

…and much more.

Our depth of conversation was honest and uncensored.  If you wonder what it’s like to be a Black Man in this country, this is an episode you don’t want to miss.

S2-E11: What Does A Man Look Like?

S2-E11: What Does A Man Look Like?

June 7, 2020

What does a man look like?  June is “The Month of the Man” and it’s my pleasure to welcome John A. McDonald II to Enough Factor Podcast.  Described as a tie-loathing adventurer, philanthropist & entrepreneur who turns ideas into reality, it’s hard to believe that he spent so much of his life not knowing who he was. He resented his mom and was angry with his dad for it.  To this day, he doesn't know who his father is.  His story sadly is one that is shared by so many Men of Color in this country.

Rather than applying a stereotypical expectation on John of the "black boy without a father", I wanted you to hear his story and the Truth of his identify that found him when he was at his lowest point.

In our candid conversation, John talks about:

  • The powerlessness of growing up without a father and how young men try to mask it.
  • The origins of anger and rage
  • A very real encounter with Divinity
  • Tapping into a truth that is bigger than your current circumstance

…and much more.

This man’s life is nothing short of a miracle.

If you are feeling scared, angry, triggered by the events going on in the world, this episode is a reminder that you on a collision course with a Purpose bigger than you can imagine.

In our power-packed interview, Courage and I have an honest conversation about our 2012 life-altering experiences with loss yet the profound call to courageous living that is ongoing.  We talk about:

  • Questioning the value of your own life

  • The process of letting go of the idea of you so the real you can live
  • Letting go of what you think you need in order for you to find out you already have it

S2-E09: When The Unthinkable Happens

S2-E09: When The Unthinkable Happens

May 24, 2020

Continuing our focus on mental health is host of Dope and Damaged Podcast, Nes Reign.  Nes was a happy, optimistic woman with dreams and aspirations in the entertainment business until her life got turned upside down.  Her sister was tragically murdered!  This episode takes us into her experience and her continued struggle to accept a life without her sister.  Sometimes anxiety and depression overwhelm Nes, yet her faith, her family and her relationship with herself continue to be a source of strength.  She's proof that you can be dope (brilliant) and damaged.

Nes was born in TetouanMorocco and migrated to Germany with her family, where her dad lived prior to marrying her mom at the age of 3. She lost her sight at the age of 5, due to an operation gone wrong. Her parents raised her as independently as possible nonetheless. She signed her 1st record deal as a member of a trio girl group at the age of 15.

After about 5 years, everything came to an end due to issues within the group and financial and contractual issues with the management. They parted ways and she pursued acting and hosting on TV.  Nes got involved in event management and started writing for magazine. Eventually she also started with music again. She lived in London and worked internationally. Nes continues to work in entertainment and currently resides in Germany.

S2-E08: It’s Okay To Not Be Okay

S2-E08: It’s Okay To Not Be Okay

May 17, 2020

Despite loving what you do, being constantly told how to sit, how to stand, whether you’re wearing the right lip color or if you’re too dark for a role can take its toll.

Continuing our Mental Health Awareness Series is none other than Theatre and Film Actress Germôna Sharp.  In our honest talk, Germôna talks about her journey of enoughness and how she learned it’s okay to not be okay.

Germôna loves the arts!  With a grandmother who is also an actress in L.A. and a grandfather who is a singer and actor in Atlanta and both sides of her family being lovers of entertainment, it was only right that Germôna took her chance at being center stage. She has been singing since she was three years old and acting since she was twelve, with her very first acting role being in her high school production of “...For Colored Girls”. She has graced the stage in many different theatre productions such as Blood Done Sign My Name (RLT), Sister Act: The Musical (RLT), Caroline, or Change: The Musical (JTP), Steel Magnolias, and many more.

She is also a film actress and works closely with an up and coming production company in the NC area, EazeDay Entertainment.

But behind all the perfect fitting clothes and immaculate makeup, Germôna still struggles with the names she was called in middle school where she was severely bullied and mocked.  Though she made great strides in her adulthood, the toll of it leaked out as anger and an over-encompassing need to “look the part.”  This led to depression, isolation, stress and stagnation.  It wasn't until she got a wake up call from an unexpected place that she woke up to the support around her and discovered a deeper passion.

S2-E07: Visibility is Power

S2-E07: Visibility is Power

May 10, 2020

If you’ve been hesitating in launching a product, investing in yourself, or raising your hand to answer the question, Roshanda Pratt has one question for you: Why? Why are you waiting for somebody to give you permission when you’ve already been given it.

Known as a Digital Media Pioneer with 20 years experience as a News Producer on the frontlines of history, Roshanda is on a mission to raise up messengers who will shape the narrative through media. She is a respected News Producer, Live Stream Expert, Speaker, Storyteller and First Lady of Visibility. Roshanda uses her passion for media to spread the empower brands to be seen, heard and paid. She has been featured on CBS’ The Talk and The Tamron Hall Show. Roshanda is the Author of CEO of Live Video, a number one Amazon bestseller. She produces and host a Facebook live show every Monday night called "The Rosho Live".

This episode continues Mental Health Awareness as my guest Roshanda Pratt brings light to your Visibility Factor and your Permission Stance. We have a very transparent and thought-provoking discussion about our experience with our own hesitation and waiting for permission.

We examine:

  • What lies at the core of hesitation
  • How busyness is a way of avoiding
  • Our socialization to hide
  • How perfection is a form of asking permission
  • Why people don’t stand in the full solution

..and much more.

Roshanda dropped gem after gem:

“I had to get works out of my DNA. The truth is I cannot work hard enough for God’s blessing and favor. He will always out-give my doing.”

“I was several months behind because I allowed someone to give me permission to what God had already said yes to.”

“Perfection is a lie. Fear is a bully. And you just have to go on and do it afraid.”

“I looked in the mirror and realized my hater wasn’t the person next to me. I was my biggest hater.”

“I remember when I had to transition from the 8 year old girl to the woman.”

“If you’re investing more on outer things than inner things, then there is a problem. Because the greatest thing you can do is invest in you”

I had a couple of my own:

“We need a transformation in where we place value. We place value in things that depreciate instead of in things that appreciate.”

“We wrestle with what we have not yet resolved.”

“Stop being a hidden figure and a counterfeit cousin.”

Welcome to May, Mental Health Awareness Month and our New Normal! I gotta tell you, riding this wave of COVID-19 has had some chills, spills and wipe outs. It hasn’t been pretty. I think we all agree that our mental state is being affected. So, it’s so timely that my guest, Teaching Artist and Wellness Advocate Tara Whitney Rison is offering easy-to-implement strategies to maintain our wellness not just to get through the daily challenges of this pandemic but for the life that awaits.

Tara Whitney Rison, is currently based in the triangle area of NC. Tara is an Independent Consultant and runs an online health and wellness business. Tara is also a professional actress and received a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from University of NC Greensboro and performs locally and nationally in Theatre, Commercial, Voice Overs & Film & television.

Theater work is life work. And Tara, through art, is not afraid to go there. Her brilliance is how she uses improv to usher people into awareness. They see themselves in her role play about life situations and how we respond.

In this episode, Tara shines a light on how:

  • Poor health is a symptom of the lack of investment.
  • Sick is normal and well is abnormal.
  • The top three things she did reversed Crohn’s disease and took her off prescription medications.
  • Our gut is tied to our mind and how we feel

…and much more

Tara makes wellness normal and offers insights to help us adopt it as a lifestyle. This episode had so many nuggets!
